Recognized for their high-quality workmanship, Canadian general contractor Buttcon takes punch list management very seriously. Their teams make a concentrated effort to ensure the closeout process runs smoothly-helping them exceed owner expectations and deliver projects on-time.
As many construction management and design build firms do, Buttcon used to manage all their punch lists using Excel. Over the years, they had optimized this manual process, with a team dedicated to deficiency management. The system worked well, but as punch software came into the market, Buttcon was keen to innovate.
The requirements were simple. Whatever punch list software Buttcon chose, it had to be:
Easy to use, and simple to learn
Flexible for IT-there was no time for a full-system overhaul
Bridgit fit the bill. Soon after implementing the software, Buttcon started to see results.
Bridgit Tasks had a large impact on how time is spent on-site. Instead of scheduling a dedicated day for punch lists, Buttcon’s team was able to log and assign punch items on-the-go. Today, the process feels more fluid and more proactive.
“Logging deficiencies with Bridgit is so fast, I’m able to do it every day. Consistent logging means deficiencies are flagged earlier and get fixed faster.”
Nick Van Den Berg, Assistant Site Superintendent
Improved internal communication
Communicating punch items internally became a much faster process. Before using Bridgit’s punch software, Buttcont’s Deficiency Coordinator would compile excel reports every week, and explain each item in meetings. Now, the team relies on Bridgit Tasks to generate reports for the team.
The photos and notes in Bridgit make reporting a painless process. Buttcon expects that the need for weekly meetings will eventually be eliminated, since everyone has access to the information in real-time via Bridgit’s web platform.
With the reporting features in Bridgit Tasks, Buttcon was able to create professional documents to share with trades. According to the team, Bridgit’s reports include significantly more information than previous excel reports (photos, notes, etc.). This helps create more accountability on their end and drastically reduces the need for follow-up questions.
