Guide: Personality tests that work

Guide: Personality tests that work

Congratulations – you’ve decided that you’d like to better understand your team (and hopefully yourself) and are going to leverage a personality test to help. Personality tests are a great data point to help you better understand the tendencies of your team members, especially in a project-based industry like construction.

We’ve done the heavy lifting for you, and taken a look at some of the top tests to ease your decision making.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The MBTI test is a practical application of the psychological types described by Carl Jung, a Swiss psychoanalyst. A mother-daughter duo based their test on Jung’s findings to help identify 16 potential personality types.

You can take this test online for *free* at 16 Personalities – don’t worry, there’s no such thing as a failing grade!

DISC Assessment

In the words of Cyndi Lauper, “I see your true colours.”

The DISC assessment breaks down personality in to four key components and colours: dominance (green), influence (red), conscientiousness (yellow), steadiness (blue). It then helps you understand what behaviours are associated with each of them. This is another great option for your team to consider, but unfortunately not free.

The Big Five

The Big Five focuses on five major dimensions of personality traits: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism – these can be easily remembered with the acronym, “OCEAN.”

You can access a *free* mini test or a longer paid test from the website Truity, if this approach floats your boat.

Whatever test you choose, we’re always happy to hear that you’ve decided to invest in your people. Once you’ve done a personality test, our platform Bridgit Bench can help you track this for each team member in our profiles section so you can make the best resource plan for your next project.

As they say… ”teamwork can make the dreamwork!”
