Top Construction Companies in the UK

The United Kingdom’s construction sector is one of the largest in Europe, and the firms at the top of it build everything from motorways and railways to hospitals, power stations, and city-centre towers. The companies behind that work range from global infrastructure groups listed on the London Stock Exchange to family-owned builders that have operated in Britain for more than a century.

This post ranks the largest construction companies in the UK by annual turnover, using The Construction Index’s Top 100 Construction Companies 2025 edition. Every turnover figure and rank below comes from that list; company sites and trade press are linked throughout for headquarters, projects, and recognition.

M Group

Headquarters: Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England Turnover (The Construction Index 2025): £2,196.0 million — rank #7

M Group, formerly M Group Services, is an infrastructure-services group rather than a building contractor: it maintains, upgrades, and extends the UK’s utility, transport, and telecoms networks, delivered through around 20 specialist brands and roughly 14,000 people under chief executive Andrew Findlay. The company rebranded to M Group around 2024, and its latest results put turnover well above its 2025 ranking figure — £3.1 billion for FY25/26, with a £10.4 billion order book. Headquarters: Watford, England Turnover (The Construction Index 2025): £2,125.5 million — rank #8

  • lime and powders for industrial use

The company also became the first UK aggregates supplier to secure ISO 19443 certification for nuclear-materials supply, a nuclear-industry quality standard.

Amey

Headquarters: London, England Turnover (The Construction Index 2025): £1,876.8 million — rank #10

Amey is an infrastructure support-services and maintenance provider rather than a pure builder, designing, operating, and maintaining critical assets across the UK’s transport, utilities, and public-sector estates. Headquartered in central London and led by chief executive Andy Milner, the company holds long-term contracts to keep roads, railways, and public buildings running, and its place on this ranking reflects the scale of that operations-and-maintenance work.

  • facilities management
  • water and utilities services
  • consulting and advisory

Bridgit is the workforce planning software of choice for construction companies in the UK

The firms ranked above run some of the largest and most complex programmes in the country, and every one of them depends on getting the right people onto the right projects at the right time. Most of the industry still coordinates that work across spreadsheets and disconnected systems. Bridgit gives construction teams a single place to plan it.

Bridgit is the workforce planning platform built for contractors. With Bridgit, construction teams can:

  • run workforce planning sessions from anywhere
  • forecast resource demand across the project pipeline
  • see utilisation across the whole workforce at a glance
  • keep project and people data in one source of truth
