While Bridgit Bench was built specifically for the construction industry, Smartsheet was built to satisfy the needs of a wide array of industries. It is a widely used business system for automating project and work management. Smartsheet acts as a more intuitive version of Microsoft Excel with users still required to set up spreadsheets or go fishing for Smartsheet construction templates that deliver the needed functionality. Though it wasn’t designed specifically for construction resource planning and still requires spreadsheet creation, Smartsheet is a flexible software solution that general contractors are able to make work to plan, track, and report on work.
Features included with Smartsheet are:
Smartsheet also has an Open API and supports a number of software integrations.
Smartsheet is like Microsoft Excel, but with tools that help to enable collaboration and increase transparency. It allows users to build and share “sheets” for real-time collaboration. Smartsheet also allows users to easily create complex sheets and helps to consolidate large amounts of data into dashboards.
Given that Smartsheet is a tool designed to service multiple industries, it can be a little overstuffed for construction workforce management. This can lead to it being a difficult tool to garner buy-in from your team as the interface can be overwhelming to team members that aren’t regularly using it. A lack of view-only user permissions can also lead to multiple users having access to manage your data and increase the risk of unwanted changes.
Being a close alternative to Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet also requires some manual data entry and the use of Smartsheet construction templates that may not plug and play with your other systems. The amount of data that comes with every construction project can make workforce management a very time-consuming, tedious process when you’re using something like Smartsheet for construction project management.
“Really enjoy using it. It is a big upgrade from some of our guys using excel sheets.”
“Investing in Bridgit Bench has been a no brainer. It’s one of the technologies we’ve invested in that is a driving factor to our growth. You can get to it from wherever you are, and it doesn’t take an arduous amount of time like the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.””
“Bridgit is simple to use, intuitive and the mobile piece lends itself to up to the minute data for real-time conversations with employees. The sorting features make it simple for each user to see what is important to their department and for each department to be pulling from the same information. Can’t say enough good things about this program.”
“Bridgit is very aware of the construction market and knows our needs before we do.”
“Project integrates extremely seamlessly into the overall Microsoft ecosystem of work. This enables the platform to truly maximize on all the efficiencies created by keeping your work within one platform.”
“I like that the interface allows me to enter the data about the project into what looks like a spreadsheet. The software then generates a Gantt chart and helps me track where I might have finished ahead of schedule or where I might slip if I don’t pay attention.”
Bridgit Bench is the leading workforce management tool for construction because, unlike Smartsheet, it was built specifically for the industry. While Smartsheet can be a great alternative to spreadsheets, its similar features and capabilities will often leave users wondering why they decided to migrate out of Microsoft Excel.
Bridgit Bench not only eliminates the hours of spreadsheet upkeep, but it also helps to surface information relevant to your resource allocations to streamline the process and build stronger project teams. Bridgit Bench enables high-level collaboration, allows for transparency without the risk of unwanted changes, provides flexibility to configure the software to suit your business, and most importantly its ease of use allows for a seamless implementation so you never miss a step.
